The Story of Lee's Place
After a valiant effort to save his life, Brenda Rabalais lost her fourteen year old son to cancer. This tragic loss and the actions Brenda took to heal herself are the reasons Lee's Place, named in honor of her son, now serves over 400 people in our community each year. Understanding the challenges she faced in dealing with her hrief, Brenda decided as a therapist that she needed to help otheres who were going through their own grief process.
In her quest to help others, Brenda joined the staff at Hospice and spent two years as volunteer. She soon realized that s wonderful as Hospice is, some individuals, especially children, needed more specialized therapy while they were experiencing loss. Determined to provide this needed support and care, Brenda traveled the country visiting centers that specialized in grief counseling. After spending time in other centers, she knew what she wanted to provide to the community in Tallahassee and throughout the Big Bend area.
With the help of close friends and a small staff, Lee's Place was opened one year later. Brenda purchased and refurbished a beautiful home across the street from Lake ella in the heart of Tallahassee. The first year was primarily spent reaching out to the community and letting people and organizations know that Lee's Place was here with a mission focused on providing counseling and educational services to anyone adjusting to any type of loss, including death, divorce, abandonment or a life changing transition. By the second year, Lee's Place was busy counseling hundreds of children, adults and families, and the numbers continue to grow every year.
